The Most Incredible Point I Have Ever Seen
James Therriault vs. Dhiren Narotam a finals at the US open in Miami
-
-
114 aggressive & defensive shots in one point! Kills, chops,
loops, lobs, gets, drop shots, the entire gamut all in one point.

The match went deuce in the third. It was filled with an extraordinary
number of great points. Dhiren ended up winning the match.
At the beginning, no one was watching, by the time the match was over there
was a significant audience. You can occasionally see Lisa Gee pop
into the picture as she retrieves a ball in the doubles match on the table
to the right. The player on the far table behind James is Larry Hodges.
I am not sure of the event. It was a finals of a very high level
one, perhaps the U2450 rating event.

I captured approximately 80 strokes on tape and have transferred them
to an 82 second AVI file. This file is huge! The ZIP file is
133 megabytes. The uncompressed file is 198 megabytes. The
AVI is 640x480 in full color (without sound). A
really bad MPEG chop up is 2 meg in size, but sorta gives you the idea
what the real thing might be like. Although this is the best point,
there were two or three around the same point in the match that were close
in there quality.
Dhiren went on to make the US team but James has yet to reach his full
potential. It would be wonderful to see him on the world competitive
stage, not just the exhibition one.
-
Due to popular demand, I am posting a scaled down version of the
AVI. This one is 74 seconds long (cuts about 10 more shots from the
beginning) and is 320x240. The size of the ZIP is 71 meg and the
AVI is 95 meg uncompressed.

If anyone wishes, they can send me a blank Iomega Zip disk and I will
copy the file over and send it back to them.
