Introduction to HTML - 8 hour course
This hands-on instructor-led, introductory course is open to all users. Students enrolling in this course should understand the basic concepts involved in working with a personal computer (PC) and should understand the basics of Windows. No prior knowledge or experience with HTML is assumed. Class work will focus exclusively on creating effective, cross-browser compatible HTML code. An HTML editor will be used in class for ease of content creation, but students will be writing code directly. Students will learn the basic skills necessary to begin effectively creating web pages by learning how to set up a basic HTML document; enter and format text; create headers; create ordered and unordered (bulleted) lists; create links to content within a page, within a site and outside a site; incorporate inline images; create simple and nested tables; work with color to enhance backgrounds, text, and tables, control formatting with style sheets; create a basic response form with text input, radio buttons, and checkboxes; and create meta tags. Upon successful completion of this course, students will have created a basic website with multiple pages, including background images and colors, inline images, tables, style sheets and forms.
This class meets on four consecutive weeks; each meeting is two hours long. Classes are held in a computer lab equipped with a projector so that every student will view concepts. Each student will have a computer at his/her workstation with the HTML editor installed and will work through the class material presented in class. The reference book is Teach Yourself HTML and XHTML in 24 Hours (SAMS). Students are expected to purchase the text, and read the first two chapters prior to the first meeting of the class. Demonstration versions of the HTML editor and grahpics editor software used in class may be downloaded from the internet.
