Moving To Linux, Part 2
Prerequisites:  Part 1 or Instructor Permission
Instructor:  Rick Archibald

Kiss the Blue Screen of Death Goodbye!

The Linux Desktop is coming of age. This three-part hands-on instructor-led course will let you say goodbye to Microsoft®-induced crashes, viruses, hassles, and especially cost!

As the author of our text says on his support web site:

"Moving to Linux can help you migrate from Windows to Linux in just hours! By the time you've finished, you'll be able to do virtually anything in Linux -- without the aggravation, crashes, security risks, or high costs of running Windows!

This is not a book for techies! It's a book for people like you: people who write documents, create spreadsheets, surf the Web, send emails, listen to CDs, play games -- and want to do it simply in Linux, without becoming technical experts!"

He is speaking of his book, but the same can be said of this course.

It is open to anyone who has intermediate experience on either Windows or Mac. You should already be familiar with your operating system's File System (e.g. Windows Explorer), Program Files, Control Panel, and other basics. Intermediate mouse and keyboard skills are essential: you do not need to be a "touch typist", but you must know your keybord layout well.

We are developing "Linux Hands On" as transition class to take a "Basic Computer Use" graduate to the level necessary to take this course.

The course has 3 parts, each lasts 6 weeks and will covers a block of 6 chapters in the textbook. Each part is a separate class, with separate registraton. Normally, each part is the prerequisite for the one following; but excep[tions can be made with the instuctor's permission.

Textbook (not included -- $35 list, approx. $23 on the Web):
