Troubleshooting Your ADSL Connection

If your ADSL is not displaying web pages or your Email is not being delivered, please try the following before calling HALNet Support.

Shut down ANY sort of firewall software that's running on your computer.

If still not working, then shut down the computer. Shut down any routers/hubs/switches between the PC and ADSL Modem. Shut off the modem. Wait about 10 to 20 seconds.

Turn on the modem first and wait about 1 to 2 minutes. Turn on any routers/hubs/switches between the PC and ADSL Modem, and then turn on the computer last.

After the computer has started and has been on about a minute, check the ADSL Modem lights: light(s) blinking??? lights amber???? other than GREEN???

If not all GREEN, then there may be a problem with the DSL signal. If so, the please check that ALL telephone devices are filtered and that the DSL modem is securly plugged into the telephone jack.

See if you can get web pages now. If web pages cannot be brought up, check the IP address.

To test for an IP Address in Windows 98-2000 go to Start, Run, and type in COMMAND (for NT, XP, and 2000 you would type CMD instead), then in the "DOS" screen type in IPCONFIG. You should get several lines of text on the screen showing information about your network configuration. Look for all the lines labled "IP Address", there may be several. You should have an IP address that starts with 206.180.15x.xxx, unless you have a router, in which case you would have a 192.168.xxx.xxx, 10.0.xxx.xxx, or a 172.xxx.xxx.xxx address.

For Windows 95 you would go to Start, Run, and type in WINIPCFG. A dialog box should appear with network information. If it shows PPP Adaptor, then click on the drop down arrow to the right and pick your Ethernet card from the list (D-Link, 3com, Kingston, NE 2000, Linksys, Realtek, etc.). Click RELEASE ALL. Wait 5 seconds then click RENEW ALL. You should now have an IP of 206.180.15x.xxx address (x can be any number).

If you get an IP address like 169.x.x.x then you aren't communicating with HAL-PC. This is a "windows" IP address since it can't find a valid network IP address. Check that the ethernet cord is securly connected to your computer and to the modem/router/hub/switch.

If you still cannot get an IP of 206.180.15x.xxx address, or bring up any web pages, then you need to talk to the ADSL Specialist.

To talk to an ADSL Specialist, call HAL-PC after 10:00 am at 713-993-3300, Monday through Friday.
