56K Modems

When the v.90 standard was adopted, HALNet upgraded its modem pool - all HALNet modems are now v.90 capable. Currently the HALNet equipment provides Rockwell k56 support, but Kflex is not a standard and there is no guarantee that it will continue to be supported.
If you are using a '56Kbps' modem but your connect speeds are not above 33.6 Kbps or are experiencing disconnect problems:
- Line noise caused by distance from the digital switch may prevent the modem from negotiating the 56K connection. Use your terminal program (HyperTerminal or equivalent) to call 713-693-0399 to test your line quality. If you use the program's capture function, you can attach the resulting text file to an e-mail message to jayt@hal-pc.org for a system administrator's analysis.
- Make sure you have the latest version of your modem's firmware.
- Contact the manufacturer of your modem for recommended initialization strings.
