HALNet now has separate servers for mail and web space. HALNet accounts are subject to disk quotas on contents of their home directories on both the mail and web servers. The mail and web servers have separate quotas - they are not related in any way
MAIL SERVER:
The disk quota on the mail server is 50 megabytes and includes all e-mail left on the server. No single message may exceed 10 megabytes. You will receive notification by e-mail if your disk space useage has reached 95% of your quota.
You may find your disk quota exceeded if you leave your incoming e-mail on the mail.hal-pc.org server after you have downloaded it to your computer. Mail programs such as Eudora and Netscape mail have options to leave copies of your e-mail messages on the server after download so that you can retrieve those messages again from another computer. To disable this, go into the Settings for your mail program, and turn off "Leave Mail on Server". If you must use this option so you can check your mail on another computer, set it to delete messages left on server after a few days. Note: the mail will be deleted from the server ONLY after it is downloaded by your mail program!
WEB SERVER:
The disk quota on the web server is 10 megabytes. You will not receive email notification if you exceed your disk quota on the web server. You can check your disk useage on the web server with a web browser:
- Open web browser
- Type the following in the location box:
ftp://your_userid:your_password@www.hal-pc.org/quota
(Be sure to put your own HALNet userid and password where indicated. The password will NOT be masked, so be sure to do this securely!
- Output will look something like this:
