Outlook Express 5, 5.5 and 6

Note: Screens shown are from Outlook Express 5. Screens from later versions may look slightly different, but the information you need to enter remains the same.

 

Click on Tools, Accounts

 

In the Internet Accounts box, click on MAIL. If this is the first time Outlook Express is being set up, a setup wizard will appear and ask you questions such as your name, your email address, etc.

If another account is in the box that is not being used, or if you are "resetting" your account in Outlook, then remove the accounts and once the Internet Accounts box is blank (as in the above example) click ADD then MAIL.

 

Enter your name here. This can be any name you want the people you send Emails to see you as.

Once done, click NEXT.

 

Click "I already have an e-mail address I’d like to use" and enter your HALNet e-mail address.

Once done, click NEXT.

 

Make sure the information is like the above "E-mail Server Names" picture.

Once done, click NEXT.

 

Make sure the information is like the above "Internet Mail Logon" picture.

The Account Name is your username (your username your HALNet email address).

In Password, put in your HALNet password.

 

Click FINISH.

The account you just set-up should look similar to the above picture.

Once your account is set up, you need to enable authentication

Enable Authentication

  1. Click on your HAL-PC/HALNet account then click Properties.
  2. Click on the Servers tab.
  3. Make sure both the incoming and outgoing Server names are: mail.hal-pc.org and that you put a check in the "My server requires Authentication" check box.
  4. Once done, click OK, then Close, then close down your Outlook Express.
