Outlook 97

Open Outlook 97 by either double clicking the Outlook 97 icon on your desktop, or go to Start, Program, Microsoft Outlook.

If the help wizard appears you may close it. The following screen should appear.

Click on Tools, Services.

In the services dialog box, you may need to add INTERNET MAIL. If it’s already there, then skip the next few steps.

(You should have your Windows 95/98, Outlook 97, or Office 97 CD-ROM available for possible files to be copied).

Note: At any time you can click on the ? to get information on a specific topic. Just click on the ? and drag it to the area in question and click again.

Click ADD

Click on INTERNET MAIL, then click OK. Once done the following box will appear.

Put in your name (or the name you want people to see you as), your HALNet Email address, Internet Mail Server (mail.hal-pc.org), for the Account name your username (your HALNet Email Address), and your HALNet password.

Click on the CONNECTION tab.

Click on the correct form of connection (usually modem) and make sure the dial-up connection is HALNet (or whatever you called your HALNet connection).

Also click "Work off-line and use Remote Mail" so you can open and compose an E-mail and then log on to HALNet when needed to send the E-mail.

Once done the following message may appear. (Note: It may say Exchange instead of Outlook. Just proceed normally).

Click OK to proceed.

Click OK until you are back to the Outlook "inbox" screen, then CLOSE Outlook 97.

Note: It is usually best to properly close down a program and restart it after changes have been made to assure the changes take effect.
