Windows XPNOTE!! If this is the first time to setup a dial-up networking, or you just installed a new modem, you may need to setup your modem or Location Information (dialing rules). If you do not have "Network and Internet Connections" in control panel, try the following: click Start, Control Panel, Printers and Other Hardware, Phone and Modem Options, then the Modems tab. If a "Location Information" box appears put in your country and area code then click OK. This may be all that is needed.If the modem is not there, click ADD. Click NEXT to use the Add Hardware Wizard. Once your modem is installed it may ask for the country and area code for the Location Information. Once this has been entered, you can proceed with the Internet Connection setup.
Click on START, Control Panel. You should get the following picture if you are in "default mode". If you are in "Classic Mode" see Figure 3.

Click on Set up or change your Internet connection. If you are in "Classic Mode", you should see the following:

![]() Figure 4 Click the ADD button to the right of the Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings box. The New Connection Wizard should appear. See Figure 5.

Put a check in "Automatically detect settings". See Figure 8.

Make sure the area code is grayed and that there is NOT a check in Use dialing rules. See Figure 9.

Click OK. ![]() Figure 11 Notice the new HALNet connection in the Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings box (see figure 11). Make sure a dot is by Always dial my default connection so it will automatically dial when needed. Note: If you have more than one connection in the Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings box, then you will need to make sure that HALNet is the default if you want it to dial HALNet every time you connect to the internet. If needed, click on the HALNet dial-up in the Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings box and then click the Set Default button to the right. Click on the General tab on top.
![]() Figure 12 Here is where you can put the HAL-PC home page as your default (main) home page. See Figure 12. In the Address box, erase what is there and type in www.hal-pc.org (or as it is above). Note: Simply typing www.hal-pc.org should work fine. Click OK. Continue clicking OK until you close all the dialog boxes. This should take you back to the control panel or Network and Internet connections screen. Close these screens by clicking the X on the top right. Finished. You should now be able to double-click your web browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.) and connect to HAL-PC (HALNet).
