5. James SPRADLEY (Bryant , Andrew ) was born in 1767. He died on 13 Aug 1808 in Kershaw Co., South Carolina.

James Spradley purchased 50 acres on Swift Creek, Camden District, Sept 3, 1798.

“A Horrid Accident. On the 13th inst. [Aug. 1808] a party of huntsmen went about ten miles from Camden, for the purpose of driving for Deer and Wolves; their hounds started a deer which was killed, over which the dogs began fighting; one of the company, (a lad about 14 years of age) in attempting to part the dogs struck one of them with the but[t] of his gun, which went off, Mr. James Spradley, who being immediately behind the young man, received the load of buck-shop [sic] in his head just over his left eye; Mr. Spradley fell lifeless to the ground and without a struggle instantly expired. He has left a widow with six small children” ([Charleston, S.C.] City Gazette and Daily Advertiser, dateline Camden, S.C. 24 Aug. 1808)]. His wife Mary married second husband, Samuel Bradley, on Oct. 9, 1813. Mary's surname was Manning.

Aug. 8, 1808 Kershaw County, South Carolina, Camden. Apt. 65, Pack 2291 Mary
Spradley applied for letters of administration for James Spradley, deceased in the town of Camden. Securities: John Marsh and Samuel Nettles. Inventory by Samuel Nettles totalled $919.25 including one slave @ $400.

James and wife Mary Spradley were expeting their 7th child within a few months. The little girl born was named Anna Lou. James evidently had a lot of land, for court records show him being involved in transaction of Revolutionary Land Plats and several sales of property from his estate were filed of record. James died intestate and his wife, Mary was named Administratrix of the the Estate.

Subsequently Mary married Samuel Bradley on October 9, 1813 and was released as Administratrix of the Estate. They later moved to Alabama and were in the 1850 census living in Montgomery County. Buyers at the sale of the estate of James Spradley were Mary Spradley, his widow, Caleb Berry, Gilden Seymon, John Spradley, Joseph Payne, James Shivers, Samuel Nettles, and Francis Robinson.

Bondsmen asked for release of Bond on James Spradley Estate, claiming it was being mishandled after her marriage to Samuel Bradley on 9 October 1813. Mary Bradley (Previous Mary Spradley) was removed from the Administration of the estate of James Spradley her deceased husband. Camden, Kershaw Co., SC Apartment 65, package 2291, 1808.

Based on the 1800 census James Spradley, Sr. was estimated to be born about 1767 and Mary's age was given in the Montgomery Co., AL census of 1850 as 80 years old, born 1770.

James married Mary MANNING.

Mary had their seventh child after James' death. In 1813 Mary married Samuel
Bradley. They moved to Montgomery Co., Alabama.

"During 1830's, Samuel and Mary Bradley, her sons Bryant and Warren C. Spradley, her daughter Anna Lou (Mrs. John C. Martin), and Allen Bradley (probable son of Samuel and Mary Bradley) migrated from South Carolina into the Montgomery, Lowndes, and Butler County areas of central Alabama along with members of the Sumerlin family, who had been close neighbors back in South Carolina. In the 1840 Montgomery Co., AL census, Bryan and Warren Spradley appear near Simon Russell, Evan and Smith 'Sumberlin,' Samuel, Durham, and Allen Bradley, and John Malone, Sr. and Jr. (surely relatives of Warren's wife Elsie Malone)." Montgomery Genealogy Society Quarterly, Summer 1994, page 81.

6. Andrew SPRADLEY (Bryant , Andrew ).

Andrew Spradley and his son, Andrew, migrated to Wilson County, Tennessee in 1806. Tavner was possibly the younger Andrew's son. Tavner moved from Tennessee to Kentucky around 1831 before he migrated to Indiana in 1837. The family then migrated to Warwick County, Indiana, where they lived during the 1840s and 1850s and owned land. Tavner was Justice of the Peace, and his son, Andrew Byrum, Sr., was a Probate Judge in Indiana. Andrew Byrum, Jr., moved on to Kansas in the 1880s and had a hotel for pioneers going west. His son Andrew Bonaparte lived in Kansas and migrated to Anacortes, Washington, and then to Los Angeles, California. His son, Francis William, was born in Kansas and moved to Washington and then Los Angeles, California. Most of the children and descendents of Francis William live in Southern California in 1994. January 31, 1803 Kershaw District, SC. Bond for 1,000 dollars by Bryant Spradley, Jr., James Spradley and Wyatt Collins so Bryant could serve as administrator. Signed by Bryant Spradley and James Spradley, and Wyatt Collins made his mark. Same date: Bryant Spradley, the younger, appointed administrator for Dillard Spradley who died intestate.

Bryant and Demaris lived in Warren, TN 1830 which became DeKalb county, and were listed on the 1830-1840 TN census ...they moved to Green County Illinois in 1843 with their family of eight (8)children all born in Tennessee except their ninth (9) child Willie who was born in Green County Illinois in 1844. Bryant must have died some time after 1843 before they left TN or on their way to Illinois, or after they got there because Demarias was listed on the 1850 Illinois Census with her second husband Jackson. The two oldest children William Bryant Spradley and Temperance Spradley Cannedy were listed on the 1850 census separately with their new spouses. Temperance's first husband died of scarlet fever and in 1860 she married my great grandfather "Nelson Woodman" and they had three children , William B., Albert and Oscar...William B. was my grandfather... also Temperance had children by her first husband , I also have these records...Temperances mother, Demarias Melton Spradley Jackson Marshall was living with her daughter and son in law in the Green county Illinois 1870 census.

9. Charles SPRADLEY Jr. (Charles , Andrew ) was born in 1773.

From a query on the internet: I believe the parents of Andrew Richard Spradley were Charles Spradley, Jr., & Winiford. Their youngest son was A. R. Spradley, according to court records. Winiford made him her sole heir by gift deed of the portion she was to have received from Charles Spradley, Jr.'s estate in Dooly County, Georgia. Winiford died before receiving this share. On June 19, 1850, A. R. gave his receipt for the distribution of his share of the estate to Allen P. Spradley, who was the administrator of Charles' estate. Allen P. was also a son of Charles, Jr. & Winiford.

Charles married Winifred about 1835.

They had the following children:

26 M ii Allen P. SPRADLEY was born about 1806 in South Carolina.
