Harold SPRADLEY. "My 2nd Great-grandfather was Michael DeKalb Charles Spradley (usually called "MDC") who was born in Camden, SC to Warren Charles Spradley and "Alsey" Malone Spradley. All of this group, as well as some cousins, moved to Alabama around 1830; and my greatgrandfather, boldly named Napoleon Boneparte Spradley, was born in Montgomery County, Alabama in 1849. "Poley", as he was known, married Minerva Adeline Kirby in 1868 in Benton (later Calhoun) County; and my grandfather, Joseph Kirkland "Kirk" Spradley, the eldest of their children, was born there in 1869. In 1870, the family moved to St. Clair County, where they continued to make their homes around Easonville and Cropwell for the next four decades. In addition to Napoleon's marriage to Minerva Kirby, his younger sister, Annie Lee Spradley, married Minerva's younger brother, Lasley Stewart Kirby, while two other siblings married a brother and sister from the Gannaway family, and another pair of sisters married two boys from the Ford family. While these marriages were totally proper from the genetic point of view, the number of double cousins in that part of Alabama was intense. My father, L. Harold Spradley, Sr., was born in Easonville in St.Clair County, and served throughout North Alabama as a Methodist minister for over 50 years preceeding his death in 1983. I have spent about 40 years in mapping; so I find the geographical trends in family migration an interesting offshoot of both professional as well as historical significance." Harold lives in Houston, Texas.
