About Canupnet

Site created May 11th, 1996

Canupnet, a personal non-commercial site provided for the benefit of its users and our enjoyment.
Canupnet is maintained by Terry Canup (a member of the HTML Writers Guild, the International Webmaster's Association, and HAL-PC).

This website is designed to be a fast loading system. If you experience lengthy wait times for pages to load, please notify us.

Technical Details

Canupnet is maintained on five separate servers due to its size.  These servers are:
HAL-PC The Houston Area League of PC Users (the largest PC User Group in the world.)
Virtual Servers for Business on the Web (web hosting on high speed T-1 for businesses)
Delos Net (host of tabletennis.org)
EV1.Net (Low cost, large website hosting)
sbcglobal.net (Ma Bell!)
There are four entry points to the site:
http://www.canupnet.com / http://www.canup.net / http://www.hal-pc.org/~canupnet / http://www.vsbw.com/~terry

Quasi-technical details

Canupnet ranges over 500 megabytes in total size (depending on current content).
*It contains between 280 and 290 separate and unique internet pages.
*If these pages were printed, they would require over 1500 sheets of printer paper.
*The site has received over 50 separate international awards for website design and content.
*All articles on Canupnet are written by Terry & Sue Canup unless otherwise noted.
*Several of the articles/stories written for, and pictures on, Canupnet have been subsequently published in various magazines worldwide.
*There are over 6100 logged man-hours of work in Canupnet.
*There are in excess of 3000 links maintained on Canupnet. (We are flattered that there are over 15 cloned copies of our links pages spread around the world on the web.  However, please bare in mind we are not responsible for their maintenance or content)
*The Main Index is the easiest way to get around.
*Canupnet is a multimedia site. It includes WAV, AIF, and RA sound files, AVI and MPEG video files, JPEG, TIF, and GIF image files.
*There are over 2700 photographs on Canupnet. All photos on the site were taken by Terry or Sue Canup unless otherwise noted and are property of BCPW, Inc. New Image Marketing.  Please feel free to reuse these images on the web, provided that credit is given for their origin.  Hard copy print and electronic publication of these images on anything but the web is prohibited without written authorization.  Articles are property of Canupnet with all rights reserved.  Please contact us for reprint permission.

Images were scanned in (using either an Epson 1200c 'cat'scanner, an Acer 310-S, Acer 3200U, or Acer 620-ST), inputted directly from Sony Mavica (MVC-FD7, MVC-FD91, MVC-FD95, MVC-FD97, & DSC-F717) or Canon Digital Rebel digital cameras, or captured using an ATI All in Wonder Radeon 9800 or 9700, an ATI All-In-Wonder Pro, a Lightning Video, a 3DFX Vodoo 3500, or an ATI All-in-Wonder 128. Images are sized and manipulated using CD-Cabin-Pro.  (We highly recommend it!) Additional web design is done through Webtricity.  Image maps are created with Coffee Cup.

The website is maintained with an IWill system powered by an AMD Athlon Thunderbird XP CPU running at 2400+ with 768 meg of ECC DDRAM via a BreezeNet SA-10 wireless brick with a 1.5 meg pipe to the internet with back-up connections on 3COM/USR Courier V.everything and Acer 56k EX/2 V.90 modems. The site is edited with the Alt/Edit Windows text editor.

Logging of user hits (hit reader) began in late June 1996.  The count is much lower than actuals due to the late start to logging, a hacker break-in into the main Webhost in the fall of 1996 and a Webhost hard drive failure in the fall of 1997.  (The Canups do not use Canupnet as their home page upon logging onto the Internet.  Therefore, hit numbers do not reflect every time that the Canups log onto the net.)  As users browse through Canupnet, only one hit is reported on the counter no matter how many pages are accessed.

Although we have added no browser specific features, we recommend the Netscape Navigator browsers.

If any page, image, or link, fails to come up upon request, please report this to the Webmaster
