Passenger Lists of Early German-Texan Immigrants

This list of web sites and books refers to little-known works rather than the major works like Germans to America. Please be on the lookout in your local library, and on the internet, for references that are unusual. Let us know about them (send a review or simply a complete reference) and we will post it here.

  1. 1844-1846, Fisher-Miller Grant and G.E.C. Forever, by Charles W. Kleinecke. German Emigration Company passenger lists to Texas, July 1844 - February 1846. 3,733 passengers from Germany extracted from the Fischer Colony Papers in the Texas State Archives. All but three passengers are German citizens, one is Swedish, one a Scot, and one claims U.S. citizenship. Passengers are arranged by date of arrival (ship) and cross-indexed.   2. 1846-1871, "Ships Passenger Lists, Port of Galveston, Texas, 1846-1871", 1984, published under the auspices of The Galveston County Genealogical Society by the Southern Historical Press, Inc., P.O. Box 738, Easley, SC 29641-0738.

  3. 1854, December, Ben Nevis passenger list of Wendish Colonists settling in Serbin, Lee County, Texas.

  4. 1865-1869, German Emigration Ships to New Orleans 1865-1869, by W. M. Von-Maszewski. 196 pp, index. Published November, 1997. Includes, where available, names, ages, gender, occupation, area of prior residence and destination. Most passengers listed sites up the Mississippi as their destination but many listed Texas or more specifically Galveston or Indianola. Available from the author, 2222 Cherry Lane, Pasadena, TX 77502, for $19.95 per copy plus 8.25% sales tax if sent to a Texas address. Please add shipping and handling of $3.00 for the first copy and $1.00 for each copy thereafter.

  5. 1885, Passenger lists of the "Weser", arriving Galveston October 3, 1885 and the "HohenZollern", expected in Galveston November 1, 1885.

  6. Immigrant Ships Transcribers' Guild, a volunteer group dedicated to making passenger lists available on the internet.

  7. Five-by-seven color photograph of pictures of some of the passenger ships that brought Germans to America can be purchased for about $15.00. The list of ships below is those currently available.
