1996 Pike's Peak Pewter
ANA Convention
Denver, Colorado
mintage: 1,200 (1/2 errors)
Humorous parody of Pike's Peak Gold Ten Dollar piece that was produced as a private territorial mint issue by Clark, Gruber and Company in 1860. The irony of the original 19th Century coin is that the depiction of Pike's Peak bears no resemblance to the real mountain. Additionally, the gold used in that coin did not even come from the Pike's Peak area gold mines, but from the east coast of the U.S.
Companion piece to the "COLO. SPGS." under mountain version for the ANA Summer Seminar of 1996.
