Dear Brother, Mother & Sister
We rec'd Marg's letter a week or two ago & would have answered before now but I intended going down soon & did not think worth while to write.
This letter leaves us all well. I suppose Hattie is gone to Salem before this as I wrote to her to go on some time ago, tho we have not heard from her since I wrote to her to go. I expected to start down the country next Monday but the company I joined is called out to go to Atlanta next week, the pretext is that a Yankee raid is feared but it is understood that Gen Johnston & all his forces from Miss have gone to reinforce Gen Bragg, & thus wish to send all the trained troops from Atlanta & have called for the fresh troops to do police duty at Atlanta & drill in the meantime. I have no doubt from all we know here that there will be stirring times shortly between Bragg & Rosencrans & if Bragg can succeed in crushing that army it will tell very effectually on the duration of the war
I have bought 100 Bushels of wheat at $5.00 per Bushel you can have what you want. I thought of sending some flour down there for sale, what can I get for it? do not tell anyone what I paid for the wheat. I have also bought you 1/2 Bushels dried peaches paid 4.25 on it which I will send down there first chance. I have two of those files on hand which I will send down. I suppose they could not now be bought for anything like that price.
We had the pleasure of a visit last Saturday week of the Rev I R McIntosh he brought his son here to go to school he staid [sic] with us till Monday he & family were well. Mrs Prince (a lady you heard me speak of being confined to her bed for 18 years) died a month or two ago. There has been a large crowd at the spring all the summer from 100 to 200 all the time. they are beginning to scatter. The children were very anxious to go down during the vacation but we were not done work & could not spare the team. We need a good many things, chickens meat & lard if there be any on hand etc. Will send & go down as soon as I can, all send love to all
D. C. McIntyre
