My dear aunty
It has been a long long time since we have heard from you and Uncle Duncan and in are beginning to feel anxious about you all. Ma has written Mr. McIntyre has written & I wrote Sally two months ago and not a line have we received so I have concluded to write again and see if we can not get a letter once more.
We have felt quite anxious about yellow fever we have heard so many accounts of its being in Jackson Miss. & we have so much feared it would reach you all. We hear from week to week eagerly read the papers to find any news of your place. But I hope now cold weather is setting in(,) there will be no more danger. Our little home is moving on as usual tonight. Ma is busy making the tenth square in her new bed quilt & Aunt Harriette is busy chatting as usual sitting in her little rocker in her accostomed (sic) corner. My good man has been very busy all day & is now resting quietly rockining in his big chair and smoking and I have stolen off to my little room to have a chat with my precious old Aunty and Uncle. I would give a heap to slip in and chat you both for a while I don't reckon I would let either of you sleep much. I can never forget your recent visit to us & I feel that it did me good. I often think of your quiet gentle influence & I try to be like you. We are all well. Ma's healths much better than it was in the summer & Aunt Harriette as well as possible. She has never missed a meal from the table since we were married & has always a good appitite. Mr. McIntye and I keep our usual health. We have certainly been blessed. Bell's family are all well. John is a fine boy & grows rapidly. Bell & Dunk & Mag & Mary McIntyre went to Fayettville one day last week to do their winter shopping. Bell did enjoy her little trip so much she has been so closely confined at home. Bro Charles & Sis Flora are well. Sister Flora has been staying at Lucius' for the past month. Charles has a son name Lucius. Poor Baxter & Maria McIntyre lost their oldest child a short while ago with dysentery. Ma spent last week at . . .
The rest of the letter is missing; however we know it was written by Maggie McIntyre. The stationary and handwriting is the same as the next letter, written 5 Feb 1889, from Laurinburg.
