PC Upgrade & Troubleshooting Workshop

The PC Upgrade and Troubleshooting Workshop SIG specializes in helping HAL-PC members get their misbehaving computers back in good working order. We meet every Friday morning from 9:30 to 11:30 at the HAL-PC headquaters. A map to the HAL-PC headquarters can be found here.

We have helped members with a variety of basic hardware issues including adding or replacing memory, modems, hard drives, CD burners etc. Our SIG members are very experienced in removing viruses and spyware from infected computers.We also welcome HAL-PC members who just want to learn how to repair or upgrade a PC.

Any HAL-PC member that wants assisitance from the SIG to fix their computer MUST CALL the HAL-PC front desk at 713-993-3300 to schedule an appointment. Only Six slots are available and the SIG is alnost always full by Tuesday morning.

• Windows OS CD or the manufacturer's restore CD
• All driver software
• Any other necessary software that may be relevant to the problem
• Computer keyboard and mouse
• HALNet user name and password if you need to set up a HALNet connection.

DO NOT bring a monitor unless your monitor does not use the standard 15 pin VGA connector.

• Please backup any critical data on your computer before you bring the computer to the SIG.
• No warranty or guarantee on any computer repair (you submit your computer for repair at your own risk).
• The SIG is not responsible for any loss of data or damage to your computer.
• The SIG is not responsible for loss of your computer through theft, fire, power surges, or act of nature (hurricane, tornado, or flood).
• The SIG is not responsible for repairs that may void the manufacturer’s warranty.

The Basic PC Troubleshooting Checklist provides simple procedures to address the most common PC problems encountered in the SIG.
