It wasn't until about seven years ago that I decided
to begin consulting. As a consultant, I have been able to pass
on my experience and training to a lot of other people - and get paid
for doing it. I have been a professional writer sice I was in
High School and a "Technical Writer" for over twenty years.
Just what is a Technical Writer? A tech Writer
is the person who wrote or edited the instructions for the safe operation
of your car, for instance. Nearly every well-written instruction
manual or guide was written with the help of one of us. We also
write procedures, flow diagrams, web pages, brochures, fliers - in short,
nearly every piece of written material in the commercial or business
world.
In addition to writing, I also do management consulting.
I earned the Certified Manager (CM) designation in 1989 through the
Institute of Professional Certified Managers. To qualify, candidates
must have a combination of a certain amount of management experience,
college education and training, have five business references and pass
a background investigation. Then they have to pass a six hour
written examination. It doesn't end there: Every year, you
have to show evidence of receiving some kind of additional training.
I also do a lot of training. In addition to the
martial arts, I also teach in the Renaissance Academy as a Core Company
Member of the Performance Company of the Texas Renaissance Festival
each year. Even though it is really "teaching," I also
work as a Substitute Teacher for three school districts while working
on my Teaching Certificate through the University of Houston, Clear
Lake Graduate School of Education.
