Camp Mouth of White River. Arkansas. oct. 26 /64

Dear Sister,

I Received your Letter of the 13th yesterday. it found me well. I hope these few lines may find you As well. the time is passing rather Dull Now A Days. All the Brigade but the 23rd is Up the River Somewhere, some At Memphis, some At Cairo. the Report Is we Are going either to Memphis or Vicksburg this Winter. Very Likely we Shall Quarter in Every Quarter of the Confederacy. We Expect to get Orders to follow the Brigade Every Day. I would rather have Stayed At Morganza this winter on Account Of the Cold. We have been Nearly Froze, it froze several Nights hard Enough to make Ice. you & Henry don't tell the Same Story About Mary & Husband. You Say they Are going to Norway. Henry Says to Denmark. how Does Uncle & Aunt feel About it. I should think they would rather he would have waited And Married one of his own Country women has he was going there. Henry Speaks As though he Didn't know Who was Captain of Bill Danns Co. You said Bill Mason was their Cap. But As they didn't go in the 42nd perhaps they didn't have him. I Am Surprised to hear of Bill Abbott going South. I Expected Slack Would go, it's the Best place In winter when you haven't to Soldier It. we have been expecting the pay master Along but he don't Appear to come. I have only Another Sheet of paper. But I can Borrow Enough till pay Day. he may come this Week. you must keep up your Neck and Don't Let the War have Any Effect on you. So Many of the Boys Leaving Might have Some Effect on you. We have had Encouraging News from the Shenandoah valley. Sheridan Appears to give them Jessy. I hope he will Capture Lynchburg. I have told you All I Can think of. give my Respects to All the rest.

From your Brother Jos. Slagg if you Don't want to Pay the postage for this Letter you Need Not take it out of the Office
