I have A chance to Send this letter this Morning. the Regiment has Just come in from the front. the Rebels raised a fuss in the Night. We had to get up in A hurry And go to the Rifle pits. the Rebels Appeared Sat isfied to rouse us from our Slumbers. We may turn the bead on them Some of these fine Nights. Smith is Busy at fort Spanish. We Received News yesterday that General thomas has Whipped forrest And taken Selma, but thats to Much to hear At first.April 8th I didnt have Such A good chance to Send this letter has I thought I had. we had one man killed And two Wounded last Night While Building A place to plant four heavy Siege guns. the Man killed belonged to Co. F And one Wounded, the other Wounded man belonged to Co. A. We have considerable firing. our fleet Is unable to get up the Bay for torpedoes. News came yesterday that Sherman had
flaxed Jo Johnson And taken ten thousand prisoners. Also thomas had taken Montgomery. I hope its All true, We have A Nasty Job here. its A worse place to take then Vicksburg. If thomas Attacks Mobile As is Expected they Will be Starved out. they have tried Every thing they could to Stop us. they have planted Torpedoes All over. Its A year Ago to Day Since We had to run from Sabine Cross Roads. I think We can hold our own to Day.
