The Allstate 250  was my second bike. It was DOA when I bought it in 1963 or 1964 because it had been thoroughly thrashed by the previous owner. The engine was shot and 1st gear was out. I paid $50 for it. After several weeks of working on it which included new rings and a new internal shift yoke, it was up and running. This was a great bike! Unlike the Triumphs I had later (damn Lucas electrical system!), this bike was very reliable and started every time. It was also an excellent learning experience in that I learned to do my own serious wrenching with the help of a friends dad.
