The very last thing that I expected to find when I began my exploration of the intellectual world was evidence for the existence of a supreme being. However, if one accepts Yin and Yang as an underlying thread running throughout the universe, that evidence becomes inescapable.
Let us first consider the nature of humanity. On a cosmic scale one would describe mankind as being mostly helpless, but not completely so; we have some power. Man's conscious mind exists in the ever changing present, but it has an element of contact with the past - through memory - and to the future - through imagination. Individual humans are mortal - but they achieve an element of immortality through their offspring and through the works they leave behind. Mankind's history has shown us that we are mostly capable of hatred, of the ignoble, and of injustice; but love, nobility and justice never completely are absent from our existence.
Now let us consider a creature which is the Yin and Yang opposite of the above description of humanity. That would be a being which was all powerful on a cosmic scale - but which has an element of helplessness in its makeup; could an omnipotent being create a problem it could not solve? This hypothetical creature would exist in the past and future with an element of contact to the present. It would be immortal - but with an element of mortality to its existence. Such a being would be full of love, nobility and justice, but it would harbor in it an element of hatred, of the base, and it would allow some injustice to exist.
Indeed, if one hypothesizes the existence of an omnipotent being as all that existed at one time - then Yin and Yang is a natural outcome of that being dividing itself up to create a companion. A being which is all that there is can only create something else by becoming less than it was; that which it gives to its creation it no longer has. If the universe it creates has length breadth and width then the creator no longer has these attributes; it has given them to us. If the creation is visible - then the creator no longer is. If the creation exists in the here and now - the creator no longer does. But the creator would find that the pattern of part of itself to the creation would be a good pattern to replicate throughout his creation.
The Christian Bible speaks of man being created in the image of God; but a photographic negative IS an image. Let us remember that God would see us from a very different perspective than we see ourselves; God would take a wide perspective from a space and time point of view. Robert A. Heinlein, in his very first story, pointed out that a human being is like a worm when viewed 4 dimensionally; there is our past position and action going back in time - and our future existence going forward in time. He pointed out that if you follow that 'worm' back in time there is a point at which it is attached to its mother. Thus all of humanity is one 4 dimensional being.
To picture this four dimensional being, imagine a tree being up rooted complete with the dirt surrounding the root structure. If we turn the tree over and cross-section the dirt and roots we would see what appears to be individual pieces of wood in the dirt matrix. If we could imagine that cross-section being taken deeper and deeper into the dirt then it would appear that the individual pieces of wood were moving in the dirt matrix as the root structure bends twists and grows. In addition, the individual pieces of wood would change in apparent size as the roots thickened - giving the appearance of growth as well as movement. It is only if we shake away the dirt that we can see that the root system is all one interconnected entity.
In just this way, time cross-sections our existence, allowing us growth and movement. It is only if we imagine ourselves from a four dimensional perspective that we can see that all life is one interconnected single creature. (Incidentally, when viewed this way, Jung's theory of a collective unconscious suddenly makes great sense; that unconscious is our 4 dimensional link to the rest of the creature.)
There are many other aspects to God's existence which make sense when viewed from proper perspective. For example: why doesn't God reveal himself? Part of my experience explains that. People who have overwhelming, dominant personalities for the most part wind up hiding them out of courtesy to those around them. Surely most people have experienced someone else who put great pleasure on their sensory system. Perhaps that other person was highly intelligent or had a stifling personality which made them difficult to be around.
Pain is the central nervous system's way of reporting physical damage is occurring to itself. One of the functions of a neuron is to conduct a small electrical signal which represents the information the nerve is transmitting; in a sense nerves act like tiny wires that conduct electrical signals. Like tiny wires, too much electrical current can damage - or even destroy the nerve. Too loud a sound can cause nerve damage - too bright a light can overload the optic nerve - causing it damage. If overbearing people can cause nerve stress - imagine what kind of sensory overload God would cause. His mere appearance would be like staring into a billion billion billion billion suns - for He is far more than His creation.
The Bible also speaks of the church being 'The wife of God' - a good description of the Yin and Yang relationship of creator and created.
Yin and Yang follows as a natural outgrowth of a supreme being dividing itself into parts - and serves as 'The Signature of God' on his creation. If Yin and Yang is the correct description of the underlying structure of the universe then it serves as proof of the existence of a supreme being having attributes very similar to the creator described in the Bible.
A proper philosophy of existence requires that it explain that which appears to be inexplicable - such as religion - if it is to be an all encompassing philosophy.
In a previous page I talked about philosophy being like solving a gigantic jigsaw puzzle without knowing what the picture on the puzzle looks like. I also said that the way that the puzzle was being solved created no coherent picture. The picture on the puzzle that is provided by the Techno-Taoist solution, on the other hand, is the face of God, and it is the very last thing I ever expected to see.
