The Houston Women's Caucus for Art

The Houston Women's Caucus for Art (HWCA) is a non profit organization which promotes and supports equal opportunity and visibility for women's art, and provides its members with opportunities for discussing, exhibiting and learning about art. Women's work makes up on about 17% of the art exhibited in galleries, but about 48% of all artists in the U.S. are female. Although one of the Caucus's primary funcitions is to address this imbalance, membership is open to anyone, male or female. The HWCA was founded in 1978 and is a chapter of the nationwide Women's Caucus for Art.

Each month this web page will spotlight several members work, chosen by popular vote as most representative of recent exhibits held at the Caucus's art space, The Firehouse Gallery.
