AcerView 79g 17” Monitor

A new view from Acer Peripherals, Inc.

It’ always a pleasure to report from the “they done it right” department. The AcerView 79g 17” monitor from Acer Peripherals is a shining example of technology done right. In short it is everything you are looking for in a display when it come to your SOHO (Small Office Home Office) environment.

Sporting a flat screen that produces a flat-square image this little hummer offers up to a 30% larger display area than your conventional spherical, curved screens. The 79g also features a high-contrast screen that offers sharp, clear displays with vibrant colors allowing you to make full use of the latest video cards with 3D imaging.

Right out of the box I was impressed with the display and ease of setup. AcerView monitors incorporate Acer’s iScreen technology that lets you adjust all the monitor’s image parameters by using interactive on-screen menus, which are controlled by push buttons on the front panel of the monitor. A microprocessor for saving predefined settings, together with an autosizing feature, allow users to switch freely among different display modes - making it possible to save several display parameters which can later be retrieved by name.

The user friendly VESA Display Data Channel (DDQ function is a plug and play device that lets the monitor communicate with the graphics accelerator card. The DDC specifications call for the monitor to transfer extended display identification information continuously from the Computer’s hardware to the host graphics accelerator card. This type of function allows the computer to automatically configure the monitor for proper operation.

I have had this unit in constant use as my main monitor for over 60 days and have used it to evaluate a wide range of products and I can say that my first impressions were accurate. AcerView incorporates a unique coating on the screen that produces a non-glare surface. This feature when combined with a high refresh rate (160 HZ vertical frequency and 95HZ horizontal frequency) allows the user many hours of computing with minimum eyestrain.
