Bring up Start menu
You can click on the Start button in the Taskbar or press Ctrl+Esc (hold down the Ctrl key and press the Esc key). In the Desktop, Alt+S also brings up the Start menu.
This also works in many applications.
It will not work if Alt+S is already an available menu option for that application.
Immediate File Delete
To immediately delete a file and NOT place in the Recycle Bin, hold down the Shift key while pressing the Del key. Please use this with caution!!!
Quick Windows Restart
Click start/shut down/restart windows. Hold down the SHIFT key while pressing OK.
Using Find (Desktop,
My Computer,
Windows Explorer)
To find a folder or a file, press F3. To extend the search to multiple drives, separate the drive names with a semicolon.
In Explorer, pressing F3 brings up Find and uses the name of the open folder as the search path.
The Windows 95 Taskbar
To move the Taskbar:
Click on any blank area on the Taskbar. Then drag (hold down left mouse button and move the mouse) the bar to any side of the screen (bottom, top, right, or left side). Release the mouse button when the Taskbar is in the desired position.
To make the Taskbar larger:
Position the mouse over any edge of the Taskbar until a double-headed arrow appears. Drag (hold down the left mouse button and move the mouse) until the Taskbar is the desired size. Note that you will not be able to make the Taskbar much larger than about half of your screen. The direction you move will, of course, depend on where the Taskbar is positioned on screen. An outline of the Taskbar will show the size as you drag the mouse. Release the mouse button when the Taskbar is the desired size.
